Postdoc (f/m/x) - Demography of Austria
(full-time / 40h per week)
to join the Research Group on Demography of Austria, headed by Isabella Buber-Ennser.
The position offers a contract of 8 months.
The research group investigates the demography of the Austrian population in an international comparative perspective and participates as the Austrian partner in international networks. Our research is based on different data sources including survey data and self-collected data and focuses currently on fertility and (forced) migration in Austria. We aim to expand our research to include aspects of gender inequalities and their interaction with family policies by using emerging social science research infrastructures as well as novel administrative data (register data).
Your Tasks
The successful candidate will work largely independently on (sub)projects within the framework of the research group, present her/his work and results internationally at conferences, and publish in high-ranking refereed journals. She/he will take part in the application process and the acquisition of third-party funding and support the research group leader in coordinating the research in the team as well as in disseminating generated insights to the general public.
Your Profile

PhD in Demography, Social Sciences, Statistics, Economics, or other relevant fields

Excellent statistical software skills, such as Stata or R

Good command of causal inference methods, including policy evaluation and quasi-experimental designs

Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

Capability to work independently and to collaborate with a broader research team

Ability to conduct independent research suitable for publication in international peer-reviewed journals

Experience in interdisciplinary work is a plus

- An annual gross salary starting with a minimum of € 70.167,44 according to the collective agreement of the Austrian Academy of Sciences
Start of employment is August 1, 2026.
