The Institute of Technology Assessment (ITA) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW) - Austria’s leading non-university research and science institution - has a double mission of research and policy advice: Our team carries out cutting-edge interdisciplinary research on the impacts of new technologies on society, the environment, and the economy, i.e. technology assessment (TA). The results of our work support Austria’s central public actors concerning technology governance: policy-makers, the administration, and civil society.

We are offering a position, preferably to be filled by 1st February 2026, as

 

Praedoc (Diss) (f/m/x)  

 (Part-time / full-time)

 

for a period of 12 months, with the option to extend if third-party funds can be raised successfully.*

 

Your Tasks

  • Collaborative development and submission of proposals for collaborative TA projects within competitive public research funding agencies and programmes (e.g., Horizon Europe, FFG, FWF, etc.)*
  • Active participation in the institute’s inter- and transdisciplinary activities, mission-oriented research, and science for policy; including collaboration in ITA projects to an extent that does not hinder proposal development

Your Profile

  • University degree (master level)
  • Experience in the field of technology assessment or closely related inter- and transdisciplinary fields 
  • Preferably training and experience in qualitative research methods and participatory approaches
  • Preferably experience with or interest in scientific policy advice
  • Academic publications according to career stage
  • Fluent in German and English 
  • Inter- and transdisciplinary communication and collaboration skills

The annual gross salary, according to the collective agreement of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW) for this position, is  € 52.278,38 (full-time based, before taxes) (depending on qualification and experience).

* In your motivation letter, please include one or two ideas for potential TA projects you would like to further develop, with a view to submitting them for third-party funding (not more than half a page per idea).
