The Institute for Habsburg and Balkan Studies (IHB), a research institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), the largest non-university research institution in Austria, is offering a position as 

Principal Researcher (f/m/x) 

 (Full-time employee)

 

 in the research unit “Digital Historiography and Editions” (100% / 40 hours per week / full time) for a duration of 6 years.

The IHB is an institute with an interdisciplinary profile and focuses in early modern and modern history. Within a dynamic research environment, you will set independent research priorities in a cultural and social sciences-oriented interdisciplinary field

Your Tasks

  • Collaboration in the long term project “Digital Scholarly Edition of Habsburg-Ottoman
  • Diplomatic Sources 1500-1918” (QhoD; https://qhod.net/ )
  • Further development of the QhoD project
  • Development of third-party funded projects in the thematic field of Habsburg-Ottoman diplomatic history
  • Research and publication activities in the thematic field of QhoD
  • Active participation in the activities of the research unit and the IHB
  • International networking as well as the conception and organisation of conferences 

Your Profile

  • University degree (PhD) with focus on Ottoman or/and Habsburg History in the early modern period
  • Advanced knowledge of Ottoman Turkish
  • Ability to work with cursive writing
  • Experience in digital scholarly editing, preferably in TEI/XML
  • Publication record in internationally recognized venues
  • Basic knowledge of German
  • Experience with outreach activities and teaching
  • Experience in interdisciplinary team work
  • Experience in the acquisition of third-party funds and project coordination

The salary is € 5.407,36 according to the collective agreement classification (full time based, before taxes, an additional overpayment is possible).
