Postdoc (f/m/x) Position 

(part-time, for 12 months, 30h per week)

 

in the research group “Religious Studies” of the Department of Classical Studies.

 

The Austrian Archaeological Institute is Austria's largest research institution in the field of archaeology and ancient studies. We study human history from the Quaternary period to modern times. The research group »Religious Studies« focuses on the analysis of religious beliefs, values and cult practices as well as sacred spaces and monuments, i.e. the relation of monuments and ritual activities. The source material includes both classical studies and archaeological sources.

Your Tasks

Development of a concept for an interdisciplinary research project with a special focus on religious studies as preparation for a third-party funding application. Preparation of a study on the decorative furnishings of selected early Byzantine buildings in Limyra/Lycia.

Your Profile

  • A completed PhD in Classical Studies/Archaeology
  • A distinct research profile in Late Antique Archaeology and/or Religious Studies, etc.
  • A distinguished publication record.
  • Fluent German and English, advanced language skills in other modern languages (required for the relevant research literature).
  • An interest in interdisciplinary research topics in the field of Classical Studies
  • A willingness to collaborate across and beyond disciplines.

  • A minimal annual gross salary of € 51.771,30 according to the OeAW’s collective agreement of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
     

    The position is advertised until the end of 2026. The aim is to start the contract as soon as possible.
