The Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities (ACDH), an institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW), Austria's largest non-university research institution, is seeking to fill the position of an

Academy Scientist (f/m/x) 

 (Full-time employee)

at the Department of Musicology, starting no earlier than January 1, 2026.

Your Tasks

The position is part of the Austrian Academy of Sciences' long-term project Austrian Encyclopaedia of Music Online (www.musiklexikon.ac.at). Your responsibilities as an editor will include writing new articles and revising existing articles on various topics and eras in accordance with the editorial plan, as well as editing articles by external authors.

Your Profile

  • Completed doctoral degree in musicology in the field of historical musicology
  • Excellent knowledge of the music history of Austria and its neighboring countries
  • Good knowledge of Austrian history
  • Interest in lexicographical issues
  • Experience in editorial work
  • Excellent knowledge of German, for applicants whose first language is not German, at least at level C1
  • Proficiency (reading) in Fraktur fracture font and current script
  • Very good knowledge of MS Office and Adobe Photoshop (or similar graphics programs)
  • Ideally, confident use of the Oxygen Editor (or similar XML editors)
  • Willingness to learn x-technologies (xPath, XSLT)

  • Gross annual salary is at least EUR 69.028,40 in accordance with the collective agreement of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. The employment relationship is initially limited to one year.
