Postdoc (f/m/x) in Linguistics
(part-time / 50-75 %)
at the Institute for Habsburg and Balkan Studies, to be filled as soon as possible for a limited period of up to 6 months.
Your Tasks
- Development of your original project proposal in one or more research areas of the Linguistic Group of the Balkan Studies Research Unit, preferably cognitive linguistics or cognitive anthropology in the Balkan context. One of the project goals should entail the production of outcomes of social (or sociocultural) relevance and ensure scientific reproducibility and reusability of the results
- Active participation in the academic life of the Research Unit and the Institute
- Contribution to scientific exchange at the Research Unit including a presentation of the research project(s) at the IHB forum
- Science communication activities and public engagement by means of at least one public lecture
Your Profile
- Completed PhD studies in any of the linguistic disciplines
- Ideally several years of experience in the field of linguistics
- Previous independent research achievements and a scientific track record expected for a postdoc researcher
- Excellent knowledge of one or more languages of the Balkans as well as English. Knowledge of German is an advantage
- Experience in working with large corpora, lexicographic resources and digital tools
- Familiarity with software applied in digital humanities
- Independence, flexibility and ability to work in a team

The minimum monthly gross salary for this position is EUR 5.011,96 (full-time), in accordance with the collective agreement of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). For part-time employment, the salary will be adjusted on a pro rata basis in line with the agreed working hours. Please submit your application no later than 2 April, 2026.
